I'm hoping to make a fursuit by next year's A-Kon, in Dallas, June 9-11th, but i am saddened, for i don't know exactly where to get the materials :|
I've figured out how i want some parts.. but i don't know how i would go about making it.
I want the tail to be a copper strand, or woven copper strands (for support), inside a chicken wire tube in the shape of the actual flesh of the tail (about 2-3 inches in diameter). Then around that chicken wire tube, i want a strip of leather hide, to give a more fleshy feel, and to give a place to put the fur that goes around it. I want to get really, really long, white fur, and completely cover the entire thing, then part it in the middle, running up the top of the tail, and iron it in place, or find some way to starch it, so that there is a flat edge on top. Then, dye the fur in the center (close to the part.. haha, at the root), a black for the stripe. Keep in mind, that my suit will be a skunk with inverted markings. The tail, by this point, should be flat on the top, and fluffy and fuzzy, and white on the bottom. (Note to self: don't drag it through any nasty puddles @__@ keep it clean.) The chicken wire can be molded to almost any shape that i please.. preferably not the traditional squirrel-like stance that most skunkfurs that i've seen hold their tails o.O; I'll probably have my tail hanging a bit lower, and more out from my body, or even still curving up, but curving out more subtly, instead of coming straight up, and curling immediately back at the shoulders.
Where would i be able to get fake fur long enough to fit around the tail, and that would work well with hair dyes..
.. and how would i go about attaching this fur to the leather (or whatever other cloth i could substitute?), so that it would stay, and not shed as i walked around?
Simple foam padding, rolled, cut, and molded to the shape of my head.. with holes cut for eyes (that i can patch up with eye-looking coverings), and a hole that i can make a foam-mold mouth. Also, foam to make the cheek fluffs, because those would have to be raised, and fit the contour of the face. under the neck of the head, a long, opaque, white, quasi-furry or fluffy cloth to stuff under the shoulders of the body of the suit, or shirt, to give a more blended and even coat of fur, with no skin exposed. I should be able to put this together, no problem. The nose would probably end up being similarly done as the claws; as a fiberglass mold. I'm not sure about the eyes.. maybe opaque white circles, with holes the shapes of pupils cut into them, and the holes covered with shiny black cheesecloth? Yeah, that sounds about right. The whisers.. i'm not sure :| But it doesn't sound too hard.
But, where would i be able to find the fur to cover this, and would it be wise to dye the fur with hair dye?
>.> Okay, so i'm just going to take an old pair of shoes, and make foam, or fiberglass molds of toes, or the rest of the footpaw, then cover it with a thin layer of fur, and put black fiberglass molded toes on it.
• Forpaws (hands):
I was just going to modify a pair of gloves, or make a pair out of the fur scraps that i have.. and put black fiberglass claws on it.
(Note to self: make at least 20 or so spare claws, and bring glue to attach them, just in case they fall out D;)
• Body (including legs and torso):
:P Fur-covered, full-body spandex unitard? It'd be alot more flexible and breathable than some of the baggy monstrosities that i see on most fursuiters. and a poof on the chest.. longer chestfur. It doesn't have to be too detailed.. seeing as i may wear clothes over it, and/or pants to replace the leggings. But i plan to make leggings, anyway, just in case. As for the legs, themselves, there will be no genetalia o.o So perverts don't get their fun, so nyah.
And for those of you who asked, i'm going to a-kon and not anthrocon, because of transportation and distance issues, as i currently live about 2000 miles away from there @.x;
If i ever actually finish (much less even start) this little project of mine, i'll post pictures. It's bound to come out really good, as far as my plans detail, despite it being my first fursuit, and my never having prior instruction in the making of such things :P
